I know a number of very healthy people who never see a doctor but still experience those day-to-day ailments that we all do - how do they cope?
Some years ago I went through a period of time where my health seemed to deteriorate very gradually. Each week I noticed I had less energy and became more lethargic. There were other symptoms which I will not go into here but I became quite depressed about the state of my health - so, what to do?
I began researching information into what I thought were my symptoms. My doctor put my concerns down to me reaching 'a certain age' and that I should be taking things a little easier - I was only 45! My friends, some of whom are fit cyclists, did not have similar problems and so I determined to find out why I was feeling unwell but not ill.
To cut a long story short, I discovered, after experimentation with my diet, that I suffered from an intolerance of wheat. It was a suggestion from another friend that started my exploration of any information about the condition. And so, I decided to change my diet and exclude any foods that contained wheat.
Imagine my horror during my first trip to the local supermarket when I discovered that virtually every tin and packet food contained wheat ? even in foods that were totally unexpected. Sure, you know that wheat is going to be in breads but chocolate ? this was almost too much! The more I searched the shelves the more I realized just how much wheat we consume without even knowing it ? try the experiment yourself, you will be astounded.
During this period of discovery I stayed at a large hotel in the UK and determined to keep to my wheat-free diet I made my dietary requirements known. The hotel assured me that this would not be a problem and their chef would ensure that my meals did not contain wheat. I was at a Conference and the lunchtime meal was pre-ordered. I forget the regular main dish but with great flourish the chef came to my table to personally deliver the dish he had prepared for me ? a gorgeous salmon bake ? he was crushed when I had to tell him that the pasta he used was made from wheat!
I soon realized that the only way to be sure to avoid wheat was to eat fresh meat, vegetables and fruit and that became my staple diet. In time, I learned how to create ?fast-food? from these ingredients and I?m pretty sure that I can create a meal quicker that it might take to microwave a packaged meal from processed foods.
The result? I am rejuvenated, energized and feeling less than my years and, more importantly, have long since shrugged off the ridiculous idea that I had reached 'a certain age'. By the way, my doctor at that time has since retired and rightly so in my view!

Dont forget that nutritional supplements can also be taken as preventive measures. For example, if obesity after age 50 runs in your family, you may want to begin taking vitamins(http://www.mitamins.com), herbs(http://multiconditions.mitamins.com/), and minerals to combat a steady weight gain.
